Guess who’s trampling states’ rights now?

with one comment

Nice New York Times editorial today pointing out the hypocracy of conservatives in Congress trampling on the constitution and states’ rights in a mad rush to woo the religious right in the Schiavo case.

  1. See, I’m reading your blog!

It troubles me, too, that Congress and the Bush Administration are becoming involved against the wishes of about 70% of the American people. They are pandering to a vocal minority of citizens, those representing the religious right, who are obviously lobbying hard and making legislators beholden to their contributions. And, of course, in increasing number of legislators themselves hold these right-wing views, since that minority has been increasingly politically effective in electoral politics recently. It’s distressing to feel like we’re having a theocracy forced down our throats by some of the same persons who most vehemently condemn countries whose constitutions are based on, for example, Islamic law.
